Bird-Window Collisions: How Big A Deal Are They?

Bird-window collisions are one of the largest causes of bird deaths in the world. This presentation covers the reasons why this devastation occurs and some ways it can be prevented, especially by homeowners.

CDHS member Carol Quantock is a local environmental advocate. She has been an active birder for over 40 years, and is the vice president of the Audubon Society of the Capital Region as well as editor of the ASCR newsletter, Wingbeats. Her fascination for birds evolved from extensive real-time experience observing nature at an early age, then by gardening and becoming a Cornell Cooperative Extension (Saratoga County) Master Gardener in May of 2021.

Ms. Quantock has a BA degree in geography and urban/regional planning from SUNY Albany, and a Graduate Management Certificate from Cornell University NYS School of Industrial and Labor Relations. She is a retired executive assistant/contract administrator and is an active volunteer for the “Green Team” gardeners in Saratoga County, CDHS, Audubon Society, and other nonprofit organizations.

The program will take place both in person (at 12:30 PM) and online (at 1:00 PM) via Zoom.  The in-person event will be held at Pinnacle Living at 45 Forts Ferry Road in Latham, NY. It is free and open to the public.  Light refreshments will be available at the in-person meeting before the speaker’s presentation, but please bring your own beverage. Current paid CDHS members will automatically receive an invite to the on-line meeting via email. If you are not a current paid CDHS member, please send an email request to: CDHS.Albany@gmail.com. Please send the request several days prior to the meeting.
